Is it wrong to be offended if you get shorted in a name-drawing?
I always go out of my way to get people great gifts they'd really want. For the third year in a row, I feel like people took advantage of it. The person who drew their name got them a nice $25-$30 gift. The couple who drew both mine and my husband's name didn't even bother to pull off the $5 Family Dollar stickers. ($20 minimum right?) I would like to say it's the thought that counts but there wasn't any thought put into it in my opinion, I got 3 spatulas and he got a small mini-screwdriver set. I am not about starting drama at family gatherings and I really feel bad for even being offended because it is better to give. Before, when I was shorted and didn't get a gift at least I got an apology because they couldn't afford it and understood. I really do feel offended and intend on returning their gifts to them. However, I feel that would just be petty and I should let it go.
We had a $20 minimum and a $30 max.
Not at all wrong, especially if it's a rule in the game. I'd say let it go and say something something next year before you all start the drawing, try to put it a rule that if someone can't afford 20 dollars for a gift, they at least have to make it thoughtful/useful/wonderful still.
