I find pressure cookers very useful. But you do have to periodically replace gaskets and blow out plugs. I have a couple of perfectly good ones from the 30's for which the manufacturer will not provide a gasket, and have not gotten around to getting one custom cut.
Microwaved breads can become tough, as can meat under certain circumstances.
Never ever try to cook chicken livers in a microwave. Something about their internal structure makes them sit there for a brief bit, then explode again and again and again.... maybe ten times before you can shut it off. Meanwhile this toxic miasma of chicken liver stench permeates the kitchen, and there is this layer of atomised chicken liver fired onto the interior of the microwave, which can only be removed with great effort. So if you must cook chicken livers, do it on a stovetop, or puree them in a blender first [cutting them into eighths did not work]. I suspect that other organs and/or other species migth also do this.
Stephen Wright pointed out that if you put instant coffee in a microwave oven it will go back in time.
