I've recently started doing some digital photography, working with the photos, my computer runs slow, why?
I might add that I'm running everything on my dell that is a little on the old side with some updates. First the computer has an internal hard drive that is 80gig, i have an external 1tb seagate, 2 gig of ram, and the original processor that came with the computer about 5 years ago. I'm thinking i may need an updated processor but i'm not sure. Thanks for they help.
If you are shooting Jpeg files then your computer should be able to handle the file size. 2 gigs of ram should be more than enough with a pentium processor.
If however you are shooting in RAW format that is another story. RAW files and the Tiff files they are converted to are so much larger that they can stress most systems. The typical tiff file is in the 28-50 mb size while the typical Jpeg is about 3mb. These sizes are for a typical DSLR they will be smaller for a point and shoot.
With a 5 year old computer you may need to upgrade it anyway but I would think it would handle Jpeg files.
